ChatGPT texts you first
With its October 26–30, 2026 updates, OpenAI is rolling out dot texting in beta. ChatGPT Pro users in the US can exchange text, photos and voice with dot over iMessage or Android RCS. Setting it up does not give access to your other text conversations.

What happened
According to the OpenAI update notes, you can now text with ChatGPT's dot over iMessage or Android RCS. The notes are dated October 26–30, 2026. You can send text, photos and voice messages.
What "texting you first" means
dot looks at the conversation context and chooses where to reach you. You can also set it yourself, for example "important things by text, routine progress in ChatGPT". When approval is needed, it sends a link to confirm in ChatGPT. Our reading: you no longer need to keep the app open, but deciding how you want to be notified becomes more important.
Who can use it
- It is rolling out in beta to ChatGPT Pro users in the US.
- The notes give no schedule for Korea or other plans.
- Only one-on-one conversations are supported. Group chats, calls and FaceTime do not work over texting. Calls can be made inside ChatGPT.
How to set it up
These are the steps from the texting setup guide. For iMessage you must send from a verified number, and on Android you must turn on RCS in the Messages app.
